Real basic (and probably stupid) question about MySpace from a newbie?

Do you have to be a member of MySpace to post a comment and/or send an email message on a member's page? In other words, if I send out invites and some invitees visit/ my page but don't want to join up/create their own page - can they still leave a comment or an email message on my page?
